Once Human's Aberrant Progeny Update Unleashes Mutated Horrors and New Challenges
Once Human’s Aberrant Progeny update unleashes mutated zones, Deviant Sprouts, crisis events, generous rewards, and thrilling new survival challenges.
The post-apocalyptic survival game Once Human is set to receive a massive update on January 21, 2026, at 3:00 PM (PT). The maintenance is expected to last about two hours, but as any seasoned Meta knows, actual times can vary. The update weighs in at approximately 12.65 GB for the PC launcher, a mere 143 MB for the PC client (though Steam users might face repeated downloads if the platform is slow), 2–4 GB on Android depending on the device, and around 4 GB on iOS. The developers strongly recommend updating over Wi-Fi to avoid any hiccups.
Upon logging in after maintenance, all players will receive a generous care package: 1,000 Starchrom, 100 Mitsuko's Mark, one Scenario Exit Card, three Specialization Reset Agents, and three Blueprint Conversion Attempts. Additionally, the new T-Crystgin currency will be available in the store, usable as a 1:1 substitute for Crystgin starting February 4. Not bad for just showing up, right? 😉

The Visional Wheel Turns: Aberrant Progeny Arrives 🌀
The echoes of the Lunar Revelry have faded, and the Visional Wheel is about to spin once more. Season 3, titled "Aberrant Progeny," plunges the world into a new era of biological horror. The Rogue Progeny have descended upon the Realm, transforming high-level Pollution Zones into "Deviant Zones." These areas are no longer just hazardous—they're alive, pulsing with mutated energy that twists everything it touches.
Metas must harness a new resource called "Deviant Sprouts" to fight fire with fire. By defeating Deviants or Half-Deviants in the open world, players can obtain these sprouts, which grant temporary mutations and enhanced pollution resistance. There are 12 types to discover, each offering unique abilities. Half-Deviants, recognizable by the symbiotic buds on their heads, guarantee a sprout drop when defeated. But beware: these sprouts have limited durability, so use them wisely.
The update also introduces a new public crisis event called the Deviant Feast. Every hour, Deviant Ore Deposits spawn in aberration zones, attracting waves of enemies. Defending these deposits produces Deviant Chests, which contain exclusive mods, weapons, armor, and rare Morphed Deviations. Carrying too many Deviant Seeds—the keys to these chests—will attract relentless hunting squads. Talk about a high-stakes gamble. 🎲
New Pollution Zone Types 🌍
The update introduces three new Pollution Zone types, each with unique effects and traits:
| Zone Type | Deviant Effect | Key Traits |
|---|---|---|
| Wild Deviant | Crops have higher mutation chance; special trees drop seeds | Fools devour crops; tamed animals lose Tameness faster |
| Mirror Deviant | Front hits deal less damage; looting may yield double rewards | Magic mirrors summon clones; mimic chests offer rich rewards |
| Phantasmal Deviant | Creatures alternate between Void and Solid states | Capturing Void animals grants Phantom trait; elite Frostella adapts |
Each zone comes with one guaranteed Deviant effect and 1–3 Deviant Traits. Higher pollution levels mean more traits. Scenario servers will randomly generate these zones, making each server unique. It's a whole new ballgame, folks.
New Horrors Await: Devourer, Hoarder, and Sonivore 👹
Three new enemies join the fray, each more bizarre than the last.
The Devourer is a colossal biomechanical worm that disguises itself as a subway train in the Workshop area. Measuring up to 45 meters long, it feasts on Stardust-enriched ores. Players can feed it minerals to trigger an Overload Weakness state, but after three feedings, it burrows underground with its loot. Defeat it before it escapes, and it will vomit out upgraded minerals.

The Hoarder is a grotesque fusion of a department store mannequin and a shopping cart. It obsessively collects discarded items, storing them in nests. If you steal from its stash, its scanner glows red, its limbs elongate, and it attacks with a swarm of angry shopping carts. Sounds like a nightmare, doesn't it?

The Sonivore is a gel-like creature made of magnetic particles and Black Water. It reacts to sound—slowly to footsteps, quickly to gunfire, and at high speed to explosions. It loves high-value items and will trap victims inside its body. Players can exploit its sound mechanics by crouching or using melee attacks to divert its attention.

RaidZone Overhaul and Resource Protection 🛡️
RaidZone Mode receives a major update, including a new resource protection system and the "RaidZone 72-Hours" event. This fast-paced server lasts only three days, with double resource efficiency, daily supply drops, and hourly Echoite drops. Players compete for RaidZone Badges to become the King of RaidZone. A Safe Backpack and Territory Vault have been added to protect hard-earned loot from being lost upon death.
Mineral distribution has also been adjusted. After feedback that iron ore was too scarce in the eastern zone, the developers have significantly increased mineral density there and proportionally boosted reserves elsewhere. Stone gathering efficiency is now tripled, and roadside scavenging yields more materials. Lone wolves, rejoice! 🐺
New Weapons, Gear, and Mod Revamp ⚔️
Two new weapons arrive: the EBR-14 "Octopus! Grilled Rings!" and the TEC9 "Additional Rules." The former triggers burn effects and creates fire rings, while the latter restores Deviant Power on empty reloads and deals elemental damage after using Deviations. New armor pieces like Gilded Gauntlets and Pivot-Step Boots offer powerful synergies, and a new Dark Resonance set rewards players for managing Deviant Power.
The Mod system has been completely revamped with a Field Guide, fixed sub-attributes, and Shiny Mods. Legacy mods remain usable, and veterans will receive compensation based on their old mods. Gear Calibration has been removed to reduce complexity, and calibration blueprints now provide more straightforward Attack bonuses. Characters level 40 and above will receive 5 selectable Legendary Calibration Blueprints and a Weapon Rename Card as compensation.
Cosmetics, Quality of Life, and More ✨
The Lightforge Loot Crate "Sacred Carnage" introduces the Legendary Fashion Set "Hymn of the Carnage," Legendary Cradle Skin "Treasure in Palm," and Epic Collectible Weapon Skin "Dawn-AWS.338." New Deviation skins, hairstyle parameters, and fashion traits allow for deeper customization.
Build Mode has been split into four distinct modes—Standard, Skin Replacement, Structure Replacement, and Utility Management—for more precise construction. The territory reclamation rules now protect players who are inactive but whose teammates are still active. A new Smart Squad System recommends compatible teammates and adds a one-click teleport to teammates' territories.
Six Morphed companions with the "Aberrant Progeny" trait—Rain Man, Snow Globe, Rebecca, Growshroom, Dr. Teddy, and Upper World Spawn—can be obtained from Deviant Chests. In the "Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve" scenario, players receive Mutagens to transform existing Deviations instead.
The Peak Duel ranked battle system arrives for the "Deviation: Survive, Capture, Preserve" scenario, offering weekly participation rewards, server ranking rewards, and a betting system. New servers will open regularly, and the Endless Dream (Visional) scenario for certain regions will now open on the 1st and 15th of each month.
Final Thoughts 💭
This update is massive, reshaping Pollution Zones, introducing terrifying new enemies, and refining core systems. The developers have also promised compensation for gear calibration changes and mod revamps. As the Nova grows darker and the Rogue Progeny spread, one question remains: Will you retreat or embrace mutation to seek evolutionary breakthroughs...?
The choice is yours, Metas. Good luck out there.
